The groove that develops below the lower eyelid, at the upper junction of the cheek is commonly called the Tear Trough. This groove cannot be removed by surgery. It results from a loss of volume at the junction of the lower eyelid and upper cheek. Injectable fillers can plump out this groove and produce a more youthful appearance around the lower eyelid area. It takes only a few minutes to inject and is easy to undergo. Numbing cream is sometimes placed over the groove. After a few minutes the injection can be accomplished. There may be some temporary swelling but the results are instantaneous.
While Tear Trough Injections do a great job of plumbing the groove, they will not remove excess fat herniation of the eyelids or wrinkles. Chemical peeling may help wrinkles and lower eyelid blepharoplasty is designed to remove the bulges.
