TCA Chemical Peel
Customized FaceMD™ TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) is used as an intermediate to deep peeling agent available in Level I, Level II, and Level III. These peels can improve lines and wrinkles, minimize pigment issues and produce a more youthful and healthy appearance of the skin.
During the skin’s normal renewal process, new skin cells are produced in the deep epidermal layer and then migrate to the surface. As we age the production of new cells and the outward migration slows down. This can often cause skin to look aged, leaving uneven skin texture and brown spots. The FaceMD™ TCA Peel helps stimulate new cell production and migration. This peel is a refined and significantly improved art of chemoexfoliation (face peeling). It can improve fine facial lines, tighten and firm skin as well as rejuvenate and repair sun damage. TCA chemical peels are designed for more subtle skin changes. They normally do not treat deeply and are not as aggressive as deep phenol peels or deep laser treatments. These chemical peels offer noticeable improvement and are cost effective. A series of three or more treatments may be recommended which can be performed once every four to six weeks. These are “staged” procedures, designed to gradually improve the facial skin, with minimal preparation and recovery. The final result is a more youthful, healthy and glowing complexion!
The FaceMD™ Peel takes relatively little time to perform and is done in a short clinic visit.
Depending on a person’s skin condition, from 3 to 8 peels may be needed to obtain maximum effect. Although it is not as aggressive as deeper peels or lasers, it is a good choice for patient’s seeking minimal down time.
Benefits of the Customized FaceMD™ TCA chemical peels:
- Reduces facial lines, tightens and firms skin
- Lightens brown spots and repairs sun damage
- Refines pores (will not remove) and improves skin texture
- May help eliminate precancerous changes in some cases
Treatments typically take around 15 minutes. The skin will become white, then pink to moderately red, like a sunburn immediately following treatment. There may be minimal swelling of the face for a few days. After two-three days, skin may become drier, develop a brownish color. Then the skin may start to peel or flake. Every skin type responds somewhat differently and completes the peeling process at a different rate and with different levels of effectiveness. The process will usually be complete in 4-7 days depending on the skin type and peel type.
TCA chemical peels will not erase deep lines, furrows or lines caused by muscle contraction. Deep lines may require Botox®, dermal fillers, surgery or deep chemical peeling. You should inform your provider if you have a history of fever blisters, cold sores, or other herpes infections as it may be necessary to take an antiviral medication.
Additional Chemical Peel Treatments
This is the mildest of the peel formulas. Glycolic acid can help reduce fine lines, control acne and even out skin discoloration. Glycolic peel is available in two different strengths.
This peel is a unique blend of resorcinol, salicylic and lactic acids. Stronger than a Glycolic peel, the Jessner’s peel helps brighten skin, even out skin texture, improve sun damaged skin and help control oil.
