It is not only important to wear sunscreen in the summer time but also all year round! We need sunscreen in the Winter just as much as we do in the Summer. Choosing a type of sunscreen can be a lot to handle from the chemical to physical sunscreens, but are you aware of the differences of each and what they do for you? With the many options for a type of sunscreen it is important to look at what the ingredients are that you are putting on your skin, Luckily the FDA will now require safety studies!
What many consumers may not know is that some of the components in sunscreens may be absorbed through their skin. Who knows what kind of impact that may have. For years we have been able to buy “sun tan lotions” in pretty bottles that seemed like the cool thing to use, but no one really knows if the components are all safe.
FROM AMA REPORTS; Congressional Quarterly (11/22, Siddons, Subscription Publication) reports that Theresa M. Michele, the FDA Director for Nonprescription Drug Products, said, “Some sunscreen active ingredients may be absorbed through the skin into the body, making it important to complete studies in humans to determine whether, and to what extent, consumers’ use of sunscreen products as directed may result in unintended, chronic, systemic exposure to these ingredients.”
