World’s Largest Specialty Organization For Facial Plastic Surgeons Begins 2018-2019 Term Year
Washington, DC, – (October 29, 2018) — The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) proudly announces that Phillip R. Langsdon, MD, FACS, of Germantown, Tennessee has been installed as President of the organization. Elected by the AAFPRS members last October 2017, he formally took office as President on October 18, 2018 and will serve the 2018-2019 term year.
The AAFPRS is the world’s largest specialty association for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. The organization seeks to educate medical professionals, government and the general public about facial plastic surgery as a specialty that requires intensive training and competence, embodies high ethical standards, artistic ideals, commitment to humanitarian service and a desire to enhance the quality of human life. Members have more comprehensive training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery than any other medical specialty.
“It is an honor to be elected as president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by my peers,” says Dr. Langsdon. “I will continue the mission of outgoing president Dr. William H. Truswell, in particular, his efforts in reinforcing the AAFPRS code of ethics and continuing to educate the public in seeking qualified, trained and experienced facial plastic surgeons for their needs—whether those needs are surgical or non-surgical. Education and preparation for the future generations of facial plastic surgeons is a high priority for this term and I hope to emphasize the importance of staying true to our roots and serving the public.”
Dr. Langsdon’s career has been devoted to facial plastic surgery, and over the past 30 years, he has dedicated himself to the pursuit of excellence in this field. He is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. Over the past ten years, he has served on the AAFPRS board of directors, as the national Fall Meeting Program Chair, as the AAFPRS Meetings Director, and on several committees. Dr. Langsdon also leads an AAFPRS sponsored fellowship training program for young doctors who wish to spend an additional year assisting him at his practice as they learn to specialize in facial plastic surgery.
In addition to running an innovative and successful cosmetic facial surgery practice in Germantown, Tennessee, Dr. Langsdon is a Professor and the Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery.
Throughout his career, Dr. Langsdon has given over 200 medical lectures, issued over 40 publications and has appeared nationally on shows like The Today Show, Headline News and CSPAN. He was selected for inclusion in the Best Doctors in America list by Woodward/White, Inc., the Guide to Americas’ Top Physicians by Consumer’s Research Council of America, and Best Cosmetic Surgery, as well as Best Medical Spa by the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper for several years.
As AAFPRS President, Dr. Langsdon will closely collaborate with other “core specialties” in the cosmetic surgery field to ensure high treatment standards for patients. He will also continue development of AAFPRS’ outstanding educational programs, partner with industry on research efforts, and continue the organization’s humanitarian efforts through foreign medical missions, surgical assistance for victims of domestic violence and our wounded U.S. armed service personnel.
“Dr. Langsdon exemplifies the AAFPRS’ commitment to clinical excellence, meaningful engagement of our diverse membership, and passion for education,” states Steve Jurich, AAFPRS executive vice president and CEO. “Dedicated to the authentic inclusion of our wide array of members, from our young physicians on through to our seasoned surgeons, Dr. Langsdon will help create enhanced pathways for leadership within our Academy and our Specialty, all while further bolstering the importance of patients trusting their faces to facial plastic surgeons.”
