Chin Augmentation Memphis, TN
Mentoplasty (chin augmentation surgery) is a procedure using biocompatible implants to enhance chin contours and improve facial harmony. The small implant can enhance the chin, improve its projection, and reduce its recess. It is often done concurrently with a facelift, double chin surgery, or rhinoplasty to achieve aesthetic balance and facial harmony.
When a chin is too small (weak chin), chin augmentation can produce improvement to the alignment between the nose, lips, and chin. A weak chin can often exaggerate the size of these other parts of the face, bringing the whole facial profile out of balance, especially when excess fat cells are present. However, even weight loss will not always provide your desired facial structure.
When examining your profile in the mirror, your chin’s projection should come near an imaginary line dropped vertically from your lower lip. If it is short of this line, a chin enhancement may be considered.
The Langsdon Clinic, Memphis Tennessee’s premier chin surgery facility, invites you to contact our office to discuss your needs.
Chin Augmentation & Your Profile
A facelift alone may not achieve the desired improvement in the neckline if your chin is weak. A rhinoplasty may not solve a profile problem with the nose if the chin is not ideally aligned. The chin plays an important part in the appearance of your profile.
Chin augmentation may be done as an isolated procedure for patients who have a receding chin causing an imbalanced profile. Any dental irregularities cannot be corrected with chin augmentation, so consultation with a dental professional may be advised.

What to Expect During Chin Augmentation in Memphis
To enlarge the chin, an incision will be made inside the mouth just above the crease between the lower lip and the gum, or in a crease under the chin. Your chin augmentation procedure will be performed in our clinic outpatient surgical facility using a combination of twilight and local anesthesia.
The chin implants we use are medical grade, mesh-like or porous material which have a high record of safety and satisfaction. With the mesh or porous quality, the tissues are more easily incorporated into the implant, causing it to anchor in place and feel more like the consistency of the surrounding tissues. Occasionally, other types of implants may be recommended.
Recovery for Chin Augmentation
A wraparound dressing which stays in place for several hours may be administered after chin surgery. Discomfort and swelling are usually minimal. Initial healing is usually complete within a week, although there may be some swelling of the chin making it appear prominent. This prominence subsides as the swelling decreases. There may be some unusual sensations like numbness and stiffness about the chin for several weeks. These sensations usually decrease as the healing process continues. As with any surgery it may take a year for the healing process to be complete.
When chin augmentation is done as a stand-alone procedure, done with a submental lipectomy, or done with a rhinoplasty, you may return to normal activities within one week. If chin surgery is done with a facelift, there is usually a two-week initial recovery period related to the facelift.
Choosing the Right Surgeon for Chin Enhancement in Memphis
Any physician in Memphis with a medical license can perform chin surgery legally, despite no training or experience in the field.
A highly experienced board-certified facial plastic surgeon is an excellent consideration for a successful chin augmentation. It is good to make sure the doctor you choose is in good standing with the various medical boards and the Memphis healthcare community. Education, experience, and satisfied patients should also factor into your decision.
When choosing a surgeon for chin augmentation in Memphis, you should focus on the entire staff. You will lean on every member during your recovery so they should be professional, compassionate, and friendly. You should be comfortable with everyone associated with your chin augmentation procedure.
You should meet with the surgeon in personal and visit the facility where the chin surgery will be performed. Take the time to do your research.
