Mommy Makeover in Memphis TN with Dr. Roberto Lachica
Pregnancy and breastfeeding significantly change a woman’s body. The abdominal musculature and skin are stretched. The breasts enlarge. The end result is a lax abdomen and sagging breasts. Fat bulges may occur in the flanks, hips, thighs. These changes may be permanent, even after a return to pre-partum weight.
Any woman, regardless of childbearing, may experience similar changes to the abdomen and breasts after weight loss related to diet and exercise. All women are subjected to bodily changes from age and gravity.
“Mommy makeover” refers to two or more simultaneous surgical procedures that reshape the abdomen and breasts in any woman (regardless of childbearing). Typically, mommy makeovers include an abdominoplasty and breast enhancement (lift and/or augmentation) procedure. Liposuction is commonly included.

Memphis Mommy Makeover - FAQs
Typically, 3-5 hours, as multiple procedures are involved.
Yes. Safety considerations limit operative time to about 5 hours, which is the time required for a procedure on the abdomen, the breasts, and some conservative liposuction.
In general, recovery time from multiple procedures takes somewhat longer than an individual procedure. Early, progressive ambulation is required to minimize the risks of clotting. Sleeping or lying with the hips flexed and head elevated minimizes stress on the abdominal incision and breast swelling. Bathing (with assistance) may occur at two days.
A typical recovery from an abdominoplasty/mastopexy might follow this schedule:
Week 1 Progressive walking/hips flexed when recumbent
Week 1-2 Return to activities of daily living
Week 2-3 Low impact exercise/return to work
Week 5-6 Higher impact exercise
In addition, one or all of the following may be involved in a mommy makeover procedure: surgical drains, compression garment (girdle), or support brassiere.
No. Stretch marks are permanent scars caused by the skin weakening under stress. However, any stretch marks that are located within the area of skin removal are eliminated.
The surgical risk profile for multiple procedures is higher than if performed individually. For example, there would be two or more areas (instead of one) where an infection could occur. This is discussed in detail preoperatively. In general, multiple procedures do not increase the risk related to general anesthesia.
