Persons concerned that their lips are too large or bulky may choose to have a lip reduction. The procedure is usually performed in the clinic outpatient surgical center under “twilight” sedation, supplemented with local anesthesia. An incision as made on the inside portion of the upper and/or lower lip, and a section of tissue is excised. The edge of the incision is advanced inward and closed with absorbable sutures.
There is some swelling and possibly discoloration postoperatively. Most of the swelling and discoloration usually reabsorbs in about fourteen days; however, it may take longer for the final amounts of swelling and firmness to resolve. As with any surgery it may take a year, occasionally longer, for the healing process to complete. You must be patient to appreciate the final result of the reduction.
